Our client, a local Parish Council is offering a wonderful opportunity to work as a Clerk to the council. The person appointed will be accountable for the effective management of its resources and be responsible for the administration of its finances.

This is a great chance to be a part of the local community and become a qualified clerk. 37 hour working week, as a part of the role you must be able to attend evening meetings and events.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and balance the Council's accounts
  • Prepare records for audit with the finance assistant
  • Risk assessment and health and safety duties
  • To prepare agendas for meetings of the Council
  • Attend meetings and prepare minutes for approval
  • To draw up proposals for consideration by the Council
  • To prepare press releases, flyers and items for social media.
  • Attend training courses leading to the formal Qualified Clerk status
  • Ability to enable the creation and application of budgets and accounts.

Key Requirements

  • Demonstrate effective project management skills
  • Strong minute taking ability
  • Ability to give professional, supportive and constructive advice
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office
  • Flexible to work evenings as part of 37 hour week
  • Full UK driving license and car owner
  • Good analytical, reasoning and problem solving skills

Desirable Requirements

  • Experience in Town, Deputy Town or Parish Clerk role or in a senior position
  • CiLCA qualification or a Certificate in Local Policy or willing to obtain within 12 months
  • Understanding of Local government democratic processes
  • Practical experience in Local Council accounting procedures
