Our client, a hugely well known and popular brand, is looking for a Category Buyer to join their vibrant and dynamic company.

This role would suit either an ambitious and confident recent graduate or someone with experience in account management, buying or sales.

The successful candidate will be fully accountable for categories allocated to them and will manage supplier accounts effectively in order to optimise their performance in terms of cost price, quality, service and innovation. They will also identify and secure new supplier partnerships to enhance the product portfolio and source market leading promotional offers to satisfy requirements of key clients and direct sale.

Key Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for smaller categories allocated, with commercial ownership of supplier performance within those
  • To manage supplier accounts effectively in order to optimise their performance in terms of cost price, quality, service and innovation. Identify and secure new supplier partnerships to enhance the product portfolio
  • To source market leading promotional offers to satisfy requirements of key clients and direct sale
  • Deliver an agreed Product Strategy ensuring overall targets are met in terms of revenue and iGP.
  • Ensure that service and delivery considerations, capacity planning and the best practice guide are fully communicated to suppliers from the outset and taken into account at every stage of selection, procurement and launch / release
  • Work with the Product Set Up team to ensure they receive all the details required in order to set up new products and promotions correctly and within agreed timescales

Skills/Experience

  • Excellent communication skills for effective liaison with suppliers, members of the Buying team and other colleagues
  • Outstanding relationship management to have the ability to empathise with our supplier's business, and utilise knowledge to influence a favourable outcome
  • Dynamic and tenacious individual to research products and create leads
  • Highly organised to be able to manage a number of different projects and requirements at one time
  • Exceptional eye for detail
  • Ability to use tools and techniques to profile, benchmark, research and assess the experiences market as a whole and in particular for the allocated categories; risks; competition; trends and new opportunities to ensure continuity of supply, the best value is achieved and to keep the company ahead of the competition
  • Team player, loves a challenge and can work under pressure
