Location
Slough has a long history as a centre for business and industry, shaped in particular by the development of Slough Trading Estate. Established in 1920 on the site of a former First World War military vehicle depot, it became a pioneering model for the modern industrial estate and has played a major role in the town’s growth for more than a century.
Today, Slough Trading Estate is home to hundreds of businesses, from growing local companies to major international organisations. Its long association with household names has also produced some surprising pieces of British history: the Mars Bar was first manufactured in Slough after Mars established its factory there in the 1930s, while Gerry Anderson’s Thunderbirds was produced at studios on the estate.
